E-learning

Traditional instructor-led classroom training has largely been a waste of training dollars, and companies are looking for better ROI. E-learning provides cost-effective and time-saving training solutions and is becoming an increasingly popular alternative.

Even though we agree that E-learning is a great addition to the learning tool box, we encourage a blended learning format that also includes instructor-led facilitated programs.

There's no replacement for a highly dynamic, collaborative, multi-pathed and variety-based learning environment. It is difficult to duplicate this on a computer screen.

Outstanding results can be achieved with learners when the appropriate modalities, techniques and strategies are used contextually with skill and accuracy in a dynamic, collaborative classroom environment.

How e-learning is typically conducted is not meeting the needs of different learning styles.

1) E-learning tends to isolate learners: We know that interactive and collaborative learning is far superior to learning that's done in isolation. Collaboration stimulates different ways of thinking about the material and deepens the learning.

2) E-learning tends to keep learners physically passive: We also know that movement in learning is critical and triggers powerful neural networks in the brain. People learn better when getting their bodies involved in the learning process.

SOLUTIONS:

  • Make e-learning more interactive by including collaborative group or partner assignments.

  • Make e-learning more whole-brain oriented by using more graphics and less words.

  • Find ways to get participants physically involved in the learning, away from the computer screen.

  • Avoid feeding all information on a silver spoon, but rather have the learners use reasoning, problem solving, and imagination to arrive at the answers themselves.

  • Incorporate games and contests relevant to the learning. Get learners' emotions involved.

IT IS THE ACTIVE CREATION OF KNOWLEDGE that will ultimately lead to real learning, NOT the passive consumption of information fed on a computer screen or by a "talking head".

If possible, blend e-learning with instructor-led training that's incorporating what is termed Accelerated Learning. In our Train the Trainer Workshop you'll learn how to make your class-room training a winning option every time. We show you how to humanize the learning experience by weaving Accelerated Learning principles into any curriculum, computer-based or other.
