This fitness franchise engaged us to provide a
Train the Trainer workshop in Denver, Colorado for their in-house
trainers. Their franchisees have to learn a significant amount of
information in a short period of time. We had to show the trainers
(who trains the franchisees) that not all information is of equal
importance. The positive outcome of each training doesn't depend
on how much information was packed into the curriculum, but rather
how much was integrated and used by the learners after the training.
We showed them a "whole-brain" model that inevitably leads to increased
comprehension and faster learning.
Additionally, we demonstrated how the body and
brain are connected, and how the state of physiology is a crucial
component in how ready a person is to learn. Getting the body involved
in the learning process, especially for kinesthetic learners, will
improve a training to a degree that may be surprising to even experienced
trainers.
Many trainers know that learners can not sit and
passively take in information for long periods of time. The problem
is that trainers often do not know what to do instead, or they don’t
feel that they have “permission” to do things differently. There
is a knowing/doing gap that needs to be bridged. We helped to close
the gap, and Fitness Together in Denver has worked on reorganizing
their curriculum and training environment to better meet their learners’
needs.
The excitement these trainers displayed during
the 2 days in Denver, Colorado was truly remarkable, and they were
“chomping at the bits” to implement everything they learned. Here
