This financial regulations institution contacted
us during a time of increased bank closures around the country,
and especially in California due the economic meltdown in 2008/2009.
At the time, they were recruiting new staff that
needed training. Consequently, they also had to hire trainers to
train the new staff. We were asked to provide a 3-day Train the
Trainer program at their facility in Irvine, California (near Los
Angeles).
As we often discover, preparing the training room
requires more time and effort than most trainers realize. But once
they see and experience the difference between a traditional classroom,
and one that has been transformed into an Accelerated Learning environment,
no one wants to go back to their old ways. We helped this group
of trainers experience first-hand the impact that a training environment
will have on the learning.
We also took the trainers through the most important
principles of Accelerated Learning, the role of emotions and physiology
in the learning process, and how they could change their training
format to become more participant-focused and brain-friendly. Facilitator
demonstrations and practice activities were woven throughout the
training.
Each participant had the opportunity to give a
short presentation at the end of the workshop to demonstrate the
principles they had learned and chosen to incorporate. Both the
lead facilitator and the peers offered helpful feedback. Presentations
were videoed and each participant walked home with a DVD for their
own review and study.
The California training turned out to be exactly
what this client needed at the time—something “out of the box”,
creative, and highly effective. As we have found with most clients,
many were more or less aware of the cutting-edge training ideas
that float around, but no one knew how to actually use them in a
way that makes sense and that is closely tied to the topics that
need to be learned. It truly requires a highly experienced Accelerated
Learning practitioner to orchestrate a training that can make this
process of integration easy for other trainers and instructors.
